Miracle Quilts is group of quilters, sewers and hard working women of all ages who come together once a month at Independence Village in Oxford. Their mission is to create patriotic quilts to present to our wounded troops at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C.,for our Michigan VA hospitals and for our homeless vets and for Troops currently serving our
great country!!

Dan Burke will be with us with a trunk show and his lecture: “The History of Foundation Piecing”

October 20, 2012


Dan Burke will teach us to make a foundation pieced table runner sized quilt called “Positive/
Negative”. He will have kits available for $21, plus the pattern. You will only need two contrasting fabrics for this project. Registration forms will be available at the meetings in September and October and posted on the website. Click here for registration form.

November 20, 2012

In November we are asking our guild members assistance with the program. We want all of you to pull out all your Christmas/winter holiday quilts early, for a guild wide Winter Holiday Quilt Trunk show.

January 15, 2013

In January we will have a Whistle Stop with various members demonstrating different techniques.

In February we will enjoy an evening of relaxing with a sit and stitch with a project provided by Pat Quenneville and her Sit and Stitch group. There will probably be a small kit fee involved.

Kathy Conner of Smith Street Designs will give a lecture accompanied by a Power Point
presentation on including machine embroidery in your quilts. She will have her digitized patterns for
sale at our meeting. They are beautiful.

Loose Threads Quilt Guild is pleased to host Sue Holdeway-Heys for their October 8th workshop (10 a.m. – 5 p.m).  Registration for non-members has begun. we are planning on having a garage sale. So start accumulating sewing and quilting related
items you have decided you no longer want or need. You will be responsible for your handling your own sales and taking home the items that do not sell.

November 15, 2011

Donna Kooistra, an AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser, will lecture to us on “The Price is
Right”. She will be available to appraise your quilts by appointment that day. Appraisal fees are $45 for a written appraisal and $25 for a verbal appraisal. There are many reasons to have your quilts appraised, but insurance is one of the most important. Call Pam Thompson to schedule your appointment on Monday afternoon, November 14, or any time on Tuesday, November 15 until the time of our meeting.

January 17, 2012

Willie Pfeiffer, from Romeo, will present a trunk show with the emphasis on how she changes
patterns to make a quilt easier to construct. She will be teaching a workshop on curves on January 21. Think about joining us on a Saturday to learn the easy way to sew curves.

Lenore's website is www.lenorecrawford.com Lenore's quilts are beautiful. She just received a second place in the Art-Pictorial division at the Houston IQA show last week.

2/16/11 9:30 - 4:30. Lenore Crawford Workshop, entitled "Blended Fabric Art Collage".

The workshop was SO MUCH FUN! We all actually left the workshop with a FINISHED project! When does that ever happen? And some of us started on a second project. Click here to see what we made.

5/18/11 "Bloooming Flowers" Workshop on Hand Applique by Betty Ekern Suiter. 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The cost of the workshop is $40 and the kit fee is $20.

6 Hours
12" x 12" Finished Size

Learn how to make perfect needle-turn curves and sharp points. You will learn Betty's method for skinny 1/8" stems the easy way. Flower centers are stuffed to add dimension to the flowers. Embroidery enhances the flowers.






There are several opportunities listed below to take a class with your friends.  Michelle Mitchell and Dianne Hire will be offering workshops.  If you have not attended a workshop in the past, we hope you will do so.  We are very fortunate to have Michelle in our guild, as Edyta Sitar and Dianne Hire will be traveling from a distance.

Annual Pot Luck and Whistle Stop

The doors will open at 5:30 pm for set up and dinner will begin at 6:30. See the newsletter for details.

Whistle Stop: There will be 3 different demonstrations:

Shiva Paint Sticks by Linda Brown
Angelina Fibers by Michelle Mitchell
Foiling by Sue Goeddeke

You will have the opportunity to stop at all 3 demos for approximately 20 minutes before rotating to the next one. We haven't had a whistle stop in quite awhile and they are always fun and informative.

Dianne Hire will present her lecture "Discovery of Quilting". Dianne, a 20-year transplant from Tennessee to Belfast, Maine, is an award-winning fiber artist, quiltmaker, teacher, lecturer, and international exhibitor.


February 20, 2010 - Michelle Mitchell will present a workshop on the reversible Circle Game Quilt as shown atour 2009 quilt show. This workshop is for all level sewers and is good practice for free motion quilting. (A supply list including the sign-up is enclosed in the newsletter)

February 16, 2010 - Carol Loessel will be joining us and signing her new book entitled "Start With Scraps". The book is priced at $8.95.


Michelle will be bringing hand beading kits to make a pin or button. You should be able to get a good start on these during our meeting. The kits include the beads, pin back, background fabric and Peltex form. Bring a beading needle or the smallest quilting needle you can thread (size 10, 11 or 12), Silamide or Nymo beading thread or hand quilting thread, scissors, a 4" hoop and a beading mat or square of cotton batting to hold your beads while you work. The kit fee is $4.00. She'll be bringing samples to the January guild meeting.
